Time. When you boil everything down, it’s what the world is about. How many hours a week we work. How many days we get for weekends and vacation. How late the doctor is running. How long procedures take. How quickly we will recover. We are an incredibly impatient people.

From my perspective, the world’s dependence on technology is nothing extraordinary. I grew up in the age of computers. As early as elementary school, I was using computers for supplemental lessons. By middle school, I had a required computer course that taught the use of most Microsoft Office applications and typing. I did not have a single course in high school that considered hand written papers acceptable. And when I reached college, a laptop or computer access of some kind was required for me to be able to access syllabi, assignments, and even exams.
