As an intern/consultant for Leonard-McDowell through Kelley School of Business' Discovery, Innovation and Venture Enterprise (DIVE) Program, AJ Feeney-Ruiz also currently serves as Communications Director and Deputy Chief of Staff for the Office of the Secretary of the State. He has returned to the post after a four-year absence during which he ran his own consulting practice. He served as Communications Director to former Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita from 2005 to 2007 while completing his joint JD/MBA degree at Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis and IU’s Kelley School of Business. After leaving the office in 2007, AJ founded Indianapolis-based Crossroads Group specializing in management, communications and media consulting for small businesses and organizations. A political science and media graduate of DePauw University, AJ has spent the last decade involved with non-profit organizations, government, and journalism. He has studied Chinese law and mediation in Beijing and European Union business law in Croatia. He has consulted with businesses in China’s Yunan Province, and worked for foreign-owned and operated companies in South Africa and Thailand during extensive international travels. In his free time, AJ enjoys adventure sports, Hemingway novels, and volunteering as a mediator and board member for the Indianapolis Office of Equal Opportunity. AJ also serves on the board and as Vice President of Public Relations for the Indiana Chapter of Partners of the Americas where he assists in building relationships with the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. He is a licensed professional SCUBA diver, yachtsman, and trains and competes in Muay Thai kickboxing around the world. He is also a motorcycle enthusiast and collector of African art.
